The marian devotion of Mary D. Mazzarello takes the form of a tension to relive in herself the mystery of Mary, to model herself on her spiritual physiognomy, to reproduce it in herself, to incarnate it mystically in herself. "Be most devoted to the Virgin Mary, our most tender Mother, imitate her virtues, especially her humility, purity and reserve. If you do so, you will be happy in life and in death."

To Mary she entrusts the guidance of her daughters: "The office of Prioress, oh my sisters, is as far from my thoughts as I am from deserving it. It is precisely because of this weakness of mine that I do not want to be Prioress of the Monastery, except in name. The true Prioress will be Our Lady who stands before you" so much so that she has the habit of leaving the house keys at the foot of the statue of Mary Help of Christians every evening.

In the love for the young girls and for their well being, in the educative methods suggested by Mazzarello, in the recommendations to the girls themselves, one glimpses the "Marian matrix" that inwardly and pedagogically formed both her and Don Bosco and made them "Mary's presence" in the midst of the young. She wished for herself and for all the superiors of the houses to behave like sisters and mothers capable of inspiring confidence.

Let us invoke Mary Help of Christians, through the intercession of Mary Domenica Mazzarello, to conform ourselves more and more to Her in order to get closer and closer to Her Son and let us ask for the gift of many holy vocations!
