MEDITATIVE ROSARY 24 JUNE 2026

The month of June is dedicated to devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is celebrated on the Friday following the Feast of Corpus Christi: this timing highlights the link between the Eucharist—that is, the Body of Christ offered up for us—and his Heart, the symbol of the love that animates this offering.

Don Bosco had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and taught it to his young people with these words: “Look to the true purpose of devotion to the Sacred Heart; that is, reform your own heart after that of Jesus, imitate the virtues of which He is the model; imitate His gentleness, humility, patience and charity”.

Let us therefore pray the Glorious Mysteries, entrusting our intentions to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

First Glorious Mystery: let us contemplate the Resurrection of Jesus

“The disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, ‘Peace be with you!’ Then he said to Thomas: ‘Put your finger here and see my hands; reach out your hand and place it in my side; and do not be unbelieving, but believe!’ Thomas replied to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed!’ (Jn 20:26–29)

The Heart of Jesus is not merely a moral example to be emulated, but, thanks to our living encounter with him, it is a gift that enables us to strive to make our hearts like his. Especially today, in a world where so many young people live without a future and so many families are exhausted by a grave moral, cultural, economic and social crisis, the transforming experience of God’s love is a proclamation of hope (Pascual Chávez Villanueva)

Second Glorious Mystery: We contemplate the Ascension of Jesus into heaven

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Having said this, he was lifted up before their eyes, and a cloud took him from their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky whilst he was going, behold, two men in white robes stood before them and said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will return in the same way as you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:8–11)

The feast of the Ascension tells us that Jesus, though he has ascended into Heaven to dwell in glory at the right hand of the Father, is still and always among us: from this come our strength, our perseverance and our joy, precisely from the presence of Jesus among us through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Let us pray

O God our Father, we stand before you, on the side of your Son who came among us out of love, preached the Gospel to the poor, healed the infirmities of body and spirit, and sat at table with sinners. Make us sensitive to the suffering of others and open to their needs.

Third Mystery of Glory: we contemplate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostles

As the day of Pentecost was drawing to a close, they were all together in one place. Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Tongues of fire appeared to them, dividing and resting on each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to express themselves. (Acts 2:1-4)

“The moment we welcome and receive him into our hearts, the Holy Spirit immediately begins to make us sensitive to his voice and to guide our thoughts, our feelings and our intentions according to the Heart of God, just as it was with the Heart of Jesus, who made himself obedient to the Father’s plan. Enlighten us, Lord, with the gift of the Holy Spirit, that we may come to know the truth of Love, and reach the heart of every person”.

In the Fourth Glorious Mystery, we contemplate the Assumption of Mary into heaven, body and soul.

“All generations will call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me” (Lk 1:48-49).

This is “the message” of the Heart of Jesus, “in which are found all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”: “to have a free heart”. Jesus speaks to us of the freedom of the heart. A free heart can only be attained through the treasures of heaven: love, patience, service to others, adoration of God. True riches, which cannot be stolen, set the heart free. A free heart is a radiant heart, which illuminates others, which shows the way that leads to God”. (Francis, Homily at Santa Marta, 20 June 2014)

“Mary, Mother of the ‘Yes’, you listened to Jesus and know the tone of his voice and the beating of his Heart. Tell us about him. Fifth Glorious Mystery: we contemplate Mary crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth

“A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” (Rev 12:1)

In every event of Jesus’ earthly life, Mary leads us, Hail after Hail, to look upon the mysteries contemplated as a manifestation of the Sacred Heart, a Heart that loves, suffers, and shares – taking it upon itself – the pain of mankind in order to reconcile them with God the Father. A Heart that invites its devotees to reparation and imitation: “Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart” (Mt 11:29).

Let us entrust to the Heart of Jesus our families, our children and the intentions we carry in our hearts this evening; let us ask that His Peace may reign forever in our homes
